In class we discussed right and wrong, and morality in government. It was said that it reflects well on a government when IT cares for the weak members of society such as THE ELDERS.
I was wondering in what country the good governments are governing, I thought Denmark, a class mate said Sweden and Martha Nussbaum said Finland first then Sweden and Denmark.
In previous post a briefly touched on the idea of 'being good' being enforced by law.
In regards to morality in government; this idea was brought forth to me by a friend a long time ago;
Why should we obey the laws of a society who exploits workers in China for example so we can have goods cheap and the corrupt corporations still make a huge profit?
Poverty means you don't have the money for the basics...why should we obey the laws of a society who allows for poverty and homelessness to exist?
or is this a choice made by the people in these situations?
Why should we obey the laws of a government that condone environmental destruction?
I often wonder why the governments often have policies that are completely against my moral standing.
Why have the "good people" been assasinated?
Why has homoerotic literature been banned but grotesque and gratuitious violent video games are readily available and encouraged?
Why is sexual violence against woman, in movies and on TV for example, viewed as entertainment?
What's with the UFC!!! Is this a regression to the gladiators?
Why are children still subjected to gender specific toys and colors?
The girls section in toys'r'us is pink
the boys section is black, red and green
The girls are still being taught to search for a prince
and the boys are taught to be superheroes, geeks, nerds, tough guys; lots of mixed messages
Luckily the book Men are from Mars and Woman are from Venus is available so the genders can sort the confusion of the differences out later
I told my x-husband "the problem is you didn't watch the same soap operas as I did"
