Compulsive Blossoms

Thoughts provoked by Scarry's, On Beauty & Derrida

With astounding, yet fleeting, delicate and glorious beauty; like strawberry season and youth.
You must be captured in the moment; become captivated by the immense incredibleness!

I truly want to believe that old men think old woman are attractive because I am heading into this realm and losing the charm of youth is scary!

The value of beauty
luckily natural beauty is free.
The cosmetic industry commits crimes of cruelty against animals. BIG BUSINESS -
promising the fountain of youth in crèmes & lotions - the consumer is the compliant abuser.

apparently Cleopatra bathed in asses milk and honey.

Adorning is ancient

Animals are given traits to make them attractive.
It is all natural and wondrous
From Roland Barthes - Lovers Discourse
page 21
Quote from Flaubert "
A sudden gust of wind lifted the cloths, and
they saw two peacocks, a male and a female.
The female stood motionless, legs bent, rump in the air.
The male strutted around her, fanning out his tail, puffing his feathers, clucking,
then leaped upon her, spreading his wings until he covered her like a cradle,
and the two huge birds swayed together..." (Bouvard et Pecuchet)

We talked in class about shaving cats and shearing  sheep
Our cat (died in the fire 12/16/11) really liked being shaved, the dog loves how she feels after a bath and the cat loves to be brushed. They obviously have sensations of pleasure.

Sockless spring is definitely time for a pedicure
