A philosopher, scientist and Lord Chancellor of England, Francis Bacon wrote a famous book of Essays (1625) which included an essay On Gardens. It started with the remark that 'God Almighty first planted a garden' and gave advice on garden design. In essence he advocated the Enclosed Style of the Italian renaissance. Francis Bacon's criticism of medieval knot gardens and praise for a wild garden, of 6 acres and with native flowers became influential a century after his death.

Bacon stresses the importance of ‘light’ as the precursor of ‘fruit’ to suggest that they are following the divine instrument.
Light is identified with truth. Supposing that light is symbolic of natural philosophy, then it dismisses the case of light being divine philosophy. The light in Bacon is primarily the light of Nature.
The ‘noble light’ is for the beneficence of all man. Bcaon took the modern spirit and weaved them together so as to suggest a method by which man could master the universe.

Francis Bacon was an alchemist and a Rosicrucian. He was also the real author of the plays of William Shakespeare. Possibly along with his brother Antony or/and his group of "Good Pens".
